ARA Sustainability Guide featuring TTG DAS case study

A best practice case study for decarbonisation

The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) has released its new Sustainability Guide to support the rail industry as it moves towards a net zero future.

‘On Track to a Sustainable Future – Australasian Railway Association Sustainability Guide’ was produced in partnership with ARUP and released at the AusRAIL Plus 2023 conference in Sydney.

The guide uses best practice case studies to demonstrate how operators, track owners, and manufacturers are working with suppliers to deliver a range of improved outcomes. TTG’s Driving Advice System (DAS) is featured on page 34 as an example of decarbonisation best practice.

The case study showcases our DAS implementation for New Zealand’s largest rail transport operator, KiwiRail. The impact made by DAS was so immediate that KiwiRail’s 2020 target to reduce energy consumption by 20 GWh was achieved four years early, prompting the organisation to increase this 2020 target to 73.5 GWh.

This report includes details of:

      • How the region’s rail industry can become more sustainable
      • How the rail industry supports resilient, low carbon infrastructure
      • How KiwiRail continues to benefit from using DAS technology
